I am forever a watcher. That is never truer than watching my family. This body of work is looking at their travels, stories and memories.

In recent years I have rekindled an interest in my Ukrainian heritage – the colourful and ornate embroidery in particular. In Ukrainian culture, intricate embroidered fabric is often a family heirloom. It is a decorative motif on one level, but also representative of something valuable that represents my family.  It is a thread that binds me to my cultural memory and my past and a thread of mark making that links all the works in the series.

All these strands have coalesced in my current practice.  I draw figures, paint, solar print and embroider Ukrainian inspired patterns as part of the design and add other design elements of a more distinctly modern character to the pieces.
